Tracking Digital FM OFDM Signals for the Determination of Navigation Observables

Abstract Methods are developed to acquire and track orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) digital FM radio signals. These methods being with the goal of using signals’ pseudorange accumulated delta-range observables navigate. Delay lock loop phase discriminator outputs computed by solving an optimal fitting problem in domain for each OFDM symbol. Single-differencing between a roving user receiver reference station can remove transmitter clock drift effects. Wideband data collected Roanoke, Virginia, Charlotte, North Carolina, have been processed offline used study these suitability navigation. Single-differenced measurement bias errors relative base be on order 100 m, but single-differenced precision better than 0.1 m. A system that uses delta range may able yield 5-m level positioning accuracy if multipath effects compensated for. The present represents initial effort toward achieving this accuracy.
